CHINESE MILITARY LINKED TO SMUGGLING RING PLANNING TO BRING 200 SHOULDER-MOUNTED MISSILES INTO THE UNITED STATES
The Washington Times is reporting : "...a California man...pleaded guilty to trying to smuggle anti-aircraft missiles into the United States...a Chinese general and state-run manufacturer are linked to the crime."
The conspiracy was to smuggle at least 200 Chinese QW-2 anti-aircraft missiles, worth some $18 million, into the US, along with the launchers, optical equipment for aiming and the operational hardware that would have allowed the missiles to be fired at airliners landing at, or leaving, airports in the United States.
A Chinese general has been linked to the conspiracy as one of the keys to getting the missiles and components out of China and on their way to the US. The anti-aircraft weapons would have been loaded into containers, presumably to be unloaded at an American port.
"(The conspirators) sought to mask the missile deal by producing a forged letter saying the purchaser was the Defense Ministry of Paraguay."
